Lent is one of my favorite times of year.
So it goes without saying that Fat Tuesday is taken very seriously in my book!
Here is how Bill and I feasted:
With homemade pizza! My half has all the fixins! |
We only got through this one. |
Then my sister Katie came over to share her loaded fries from SAHM's. |
Our Drinks! Guess who had which... |
And dessert! |
***********
AND, with this pregnancy, I'm always craving salty and fatty hearty things - that's why I thought we were having a boy initially! :)
So in addition to what we had tonight, here is what I've been eating weekly (sometimes bi-weekly, unfortunately) that would be a GREAT Fat Tuesday snack:
BREADED VEGGIES - Mushrooms and Zucchini are both great!
Breaded portabella mushrooms |
Flipped over. |
This is all you need for the breading + coarse salt and pepper:
Flour and Milk - even glutten free flour works great too! |
Dip veggies in milk and flour mixture and FRY in Canola or any oil on medium heat, about 3-4 minutes on each side. Place on paper towel and sprinkle with salt before serving eating. It does make an absolute mess of the kitchen, but is worth it on days it sounds good! Marinara or Ranch are great if you like dips too!
***If you asked a Doctor about the health benefits of this snack, you'd probably hear:
- "It's not something I'd recommend, pregnant or not."
- "If you choose to eat it, I'd advise against eating the whole container of mushrooms."
(Since I know the answers, I don't think I'll mention it to my Dr. at my next appt...)
Can you think of anything worse for you? I'd love to hear it!
We ate malassadas, carbanara (spelling?), ice cream sundaes, and cookies. Winner.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to put in root beer floats!
DeleteAND I've been wanting to make carbanara forever because it's easier than most and GOOD
Mmmmm... I want all of the above, especially that pizza!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great Mardi Gras feast! We're originally from Louisiana, so it's a big deal in our house. My husband made a shrimp bisque and I made king cakes for school and one for us.
ReplyDeleteOk that all sounds fabulous! I'm sure it's a big deal down there!
